Who We Are

Advancing Independence Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established to promote and improve awareness, availability and accessibility of information that can help people with disabilities live, learn, love, work and play independently.

What We Do

We provide scholarships to low income individuals with developmental disabilities living independently as well as training, workshop and additional supports for their daily living. Advancing Independence is also catalyst for social advancement and events.

Who We Serve

We serve individuals with disabilities through a multidisciplinary network of service providers and consumers. In order to reach as many people with disabilities as cost effectively as possible, we target our services and publications to disability organizations, independent living centers, rehabilitation facilities, educational institutions, and health and social service providers.

What We Provide

Our resource disseminates information about books, pamphlets, magazines, newsletters, videos, databases, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, telephone hotlines and on-line services that provide free, inexpensive or hard-to-find information to help people with disabilities live independently.

Advancing Independence Inc. is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law. This corporation is organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, or the corresponding provision of any future United States Internal Revenue Law (herein, the "Code"). The specific and primary purposes of this corporation are to provide the means for youth and adults to develop independence and achieve their individual life goals, by providing culturally, individually, and developmentally-appropriate support

and access to resources including housing assistance, educational development, employment development, health care, life skills training, and counseling services. Consistent with these purposes, the corporation is authorized to receive contributions and to make donations to, dispense contributions to, and otherwise aid and support those organizations which have established their tax exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Code, and which are organized and operated exclusively for the above-stated purposes.
